"Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old. Seek what they sought."-Basho

Investigate, be adventurous, be curious, explore. Learn from yourself as well as from others. In regards to many things, be unique, be original, be the best you, that you can be. The quote above written by Basho asks us to search for our own truth, to explore ourselves, our world and to learn. This is also what I ask of my students.
Art, as in life, is an ever changing process. Just as in sports or in music, we hear "practice makes perfect" this also applies to art. My approach to Art Education is an approach that embraces all students: From those that are very talented to those that are inexperienced and less confident. I truly believe that art can be learned. I feel that each student can improve their artistic abilities and can gain a greater a appreciation for art and the world around us.Just like many of the famous artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci, we need to spend time learning, practicing, creating.
My curriculum and method of teaching incorporates a variety of different aspects of art education. Along with encouraging the artistic side to art, I will also be embracing Art History, Art Criticism, in addition to reading and writing. All of these asspects are an important part in self-expression.
When looking at your child's artwork, ask them questions about what they have created. Have them share the process of their creations with you. I think together we can build creative, innovators of the future. I look forward to a creative and inspiring school year!
